Billboard Music Awards To Give First Ever Award Show NFT
Trae tha Truth is receiving the Change Maker Award at the 2021 Billboard Music Awards. To honor this recognition the Awards partnerd with Trae for the award show’s first NFT. Three NFTs commemorating the ocassion are being sold on Bitski and profits of the sale will benefit the artist’s Angel by Nature non-profit which provides community relief to the Houston area.
Snap Launches AR Spectales, Pushes Further Into Fashion/eCommerce and Buys WaveOptics
During this week’s Snap Partner Summit, CEO Evan Spiegel, announced the release of new Spectacles that include AR capabilities and that are only available to a select number of creators. Snap’s Carolina Arguelles also gave everyone a glimpse of some of the current collaborations Snap has in the works with fashion brands like Piaget, Farfetch, MAC, and Prada as Snap continues to integrate AR and eCommerce and push the envelope of what’s possible with AR, retail and even virtual fashion. Snap also announced it’s acquiring WaveOptics for more than $500 million. WaveOptics has been Snap’s display supplier.
Dimension Studio Previews AKUMA, Short Film Created In Unreal Engine Staring MetaHumans
Dimension Studio, in collaboration with Vicon motion capture systems has released a sneak preview of short film AKUMA about a samurai meeting his demon. It is scheduled for release in June 2021. The film is being created using Unreal Engine and star virtual humans created using Unreal’s photorealistic MetaHuman Creator.
New Virtual Collaboration: “Fortnite X NBA: The Crossover”
The “NBA Welcome Hub” will open May 25th as an NBA themed experience in Fortnite‘s Creative Mode. “Fortnite x NBA: The Crossover” will also include NBA outfits for all 30 teams, “Team Battles” competition, NBA player themed “Locker Bundles” and more. Fortnite and the NBA have been in discussion about doing a collaboration for almost 2 years and are now talking future continued collaborations.
Audi Spinoff Holoride To Launch NFTs And Use Elrond Blockchain
In-vehicle XR passenger entertainment experience Holoride, syncs to the motion and location of the vehicle, so VR content adjusts to vehicle motion. The Audi spinoff plans to use the Elrond blockchain and NFTs to incentivize developers into creating more content for the platform.
Roomkey Will Hold Social Entrepreneurship Festival Featuring Biz Stone
On May 27 Twitter cofounder and RoomKey investor Biz Stone will host the “Social Entrepreneurship Festival” talking about social entrepreneurship during the pandemic. Roomkey intends to host themed shows around subjects including entrepreneurship, venture capital, musicians, diversity, podcasts, fundraisers, and more. Roomkey intends to focus on more intimate gatherings with its 40-avatar limit, with an option to livestream the conversations to the outside world.
Rook Perfumes Releasing NFT Fragrance With “Scent The Metaverse” Project
Rook Perfumes is partnering with NFT platform Lily & Piper on the project to collaborate with 100 NFT investors to create a new perfume over a period of 4 months. “Scent the Metaverse” will involve the NFT investors via drop-in chats, learning sessions, interactive games, voting, and Metaverse trips. Snap Bringing Disney Magic To Selfies
Disney Parks and Snap are collaborating with new Snap lenses to bring augmented reality to the Walt Disney World resort in Orlando. The AR selfie effects include holding virtual Disney park balloons, wearing Mickey Mouse ears and a hug from a virtual Mickey Mouse. This an important addition to Disney parks and their ongoing efforts to create the Disney Metaverse.
Metaverse Alliance Launching In South Korea
South Korea’s ICT ministry is launching a metaverse alliance between 17 of the country’s industry leaders including wireless carrier SK Telecom, Korea Mobile Internet Business Association and Hyundai Motor. The alliance will collaborate on ethical and cultural practices as well as sharing technology trends like artificial intelligence, augmented reality, virtual reality, 5G and cloud computing to launch metaverse development projects.

The Dance Party themed experience includes mini games, exclusive merch, emotes, an avatar bundle, and more. Danny Green Championship Ring NFT Drop Includes PORTL Hologram Machine
The 3-time NBA Champion Danny Green’s 2020 NBA Championship Ring to be minted and sold on NFT platform and marketplace New Renaissance. Drop to include a PORTL display to show off the NFT.
